Covina History
The city of Covina was established in 1882 by a J.S. Phillips on a tract of about 2 000 acres. Frederick Eaton, a young engineer who worked alongside Phillips christened the soon to be town "Covina" because of the natural cove the lush land formed with the foot of the San Gabriel mountains and the plentiful vineyards that dotted the landscape. Eaton combined "cove" and "vine" to create a fitting name for a new and exciting land! Covina grew steadily and was even the center of Southern California's Citrus belt for over 50 years!
