RV Rentals California and Dinosaur National Monument

California

Take an adventure through prehistoric times during your travels in your RV rental from California! Discover dinosaur fossils still embedded deep in the earth, right where they used to exist thousands of years ago. Where can you experience this truly unique and unforgettable venture? The Dinosaur National Monument is where! Located in the Uinta Basin, in northeast Utah, a dinosaur quarry consisting of a steeply tilted rock layer displays hundreds of dinosaur fossils. The enclosing rock has been chipped away ever-so carefully to reveal fossil bones intact for the public to see.

Recent History of the Dinosaur National Monument

Excavating at the quarry began in 1909 through to 1924. Unlike other excavation sites however, this quarry produced more complete dinosaur skeletons, more well-preserved dinosaur skulls, and the most varied specimen of dinosaurs than anywhere else. The monument boundaries were expanded in 1938 from the original 80-acre tract surrounding the dinosaur quarry in Utah, to its present area of over 200,000 acres in Utah and Colorado, encompassing the spectacular river canyons. By the 1950s, the quarry was enclosed within the park and became a monument to the ancient creatures, giving visitors the rare opportunity to see over 1,400 fossil bones. The Dinosaur National Monument also provides some of the best opportunities to capture photos of dinosaur fossils unlike anywhere in the world. So grab your camera and load your RV rentals from California with all your friends and family and see the types of species that lived nearly 150 million years ago!

The Monument

The Uinta Basin is a large depression in a remote area in Utah, surrounded by several mountain ranges, which rest near the Green River. Canyons around the river form the Dinosaur National Monument where hundreds of large fossilized dinosaur bones are found. This dinosaur quarry is located at the edge of Spilt Mountain, a rocky peak that looks as though it was sliced by some great force. If you are travelling to the quarry in your RV rentals from California during the summer months, you may find spaces to be limited. So if you find yourself visiting during a busy day you can park your RV rentals California on the main road and walk up the slope. Even if there is ample parking space, you still may choose to take the walk, as the views on the way up are truly unique and one-of-a kind!

More than Bones

While the dinosaur fossils are the main attraction to this area, there are many other things to do and see during your visit including hiking along one of the many trails. Some of the more popular trails include the Harpers Corner Trail, the Gates of Lodore Trail and the Red Rock Trailor. Or, for the more adventurous, you can go white water rafting on the Green and Yampa Rivers. Keep in mind that private boaters must obtain a permit at the ranger headquarters or you can choose a local river rafting company, which will provide you guided trips through the river. Entrance fees into park are around $10 per vehicle, $5 for pedestrians and bikes, or if you plan on making a few RV rentals California trips, then you can grab a annual Dinosaur National Monument pass for only $20.

The ride in your RV rental from California is reason enough to head to Utah, but a stop at the Dinosaur National Monument will make the trip complete!
