Anahiem Car Rentals and the Anaheim Angels

California

The Anaheim Angles are a Major League Baseball team in the Western division of the American League. Technically, the name of the team the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and are based in Los Angeles, but are popularly called the Anaheim Angels still. With your Anaheim car rental you can take in a game while you are in the area.

Interestingly, the team started their history in Los Angeles in the 1960s, then were moved to Anaheim in 1966, and then moved back to Los Angeles. One of the reasons the name stuck as the Anaheim Angels was because Disney, who had an interest in the team for a number of years before having a controlling interest in it, wanted to turn the city into a tourist destination much like Disney World had done for Orlando before.

In the 1980s, the Angels came very close to the World Series in 1982 with Reggie Jackson joining the team that year. Again in 1986 the Angels were close to the World Series. In fact, they were one strike away from it. This was very disappointing for the team and the fans, who were very upset and took the loss badly. In fact, pitcher Donnie Moore eventually committed suicide, claiming that the final pitch still haunted him. This event prompted talk about a hex on the team.

A hex on the Angels

Some tragic events in the team’s history has prompted some talk of a hex on the team, which you may learn a little more about when you visit with your Anaheim car rental.

In 1978, there was the murder of Lyman Bostock, the outfielder, and then the suicide by Moore prompted further speculation. This is sometimes called the curse of the cowboy, but it is now as well-known as the Curse of the Bambino. Another urban legend is that the team was not successful until 2002 because the stadium, The Big A, was built on an Indian burial ground. This has not been proved or disproved.

In 1999 Disney acquired the controlling interest in the stadium, which is located only a few miles from Disneyland with your Anaheim car rental. The company also produced the 1994 movie Angels in the Outfield, which is a fictional story about the team.
